John Calverley

John Calverley has 40 years’ experience in international economics and investments, both on the buy and sell side. Most recently, he was Head of Macroeconomic research for Standard Chartered Bank and before that Chief Economist and Strategist at American Express Bank. John is a renowned economist and an inspirational teacher.

His book "Bubbles and How to Survive Them" published in 2004 foresaw the risks of the US housing bubble and the 2009 sequel "When Bubbles Burst" explained the consequences. His book "The Investors Guide to Economic Fundamentals" (Wiley, 2002) analyzed the links between economic variables and financial markets.

During 2000-3 he was Chairman of the UK Society for Business Economists and from 1997-2007 a Council Member of SUERF, the European Money and Finance Forum. John is currently a consultant to the CFA Institute on the CFA curriculum. He was educated at Cambridge University and Washington University.
