Packaged Retail and Insurance-based Investment Products (PRIIPs)

From January 2018 onwards, the marketing of financial instruments to retail investors will change in line with the Packaged Retail and Insurance-based Investment Products (PRIIPs) Regulation. Every retail investor, who is interested in investing in a PRIIP and has asked for information about such a product, has to be provided with the respective Key Investor Document (KID).

This new regulation impacts virtually all investment products - only UCITS products should have a 2-year derogation - and affects insurers, fund managers and product providers, all of whom will be required to finalize their preparations in order to comply with this new regime.

This hands-on programme will take you through the different building blocks of the regulation and drill down into:

  • Classification of instruments
  • Construction of the KID
  • Monitoring
  • Quantification of embedded credit risk
  • Calculations - There is significant work and complex calculations involved in preparing a KID. The different PRIIP categories will require different risk calculation approaches
  • European PRIIPs Template (EPT) - The file format by which market participants can exchange information related to the building blocks of a particular KID
  • Transaction costs

Beyond the regulatory aspects, hands-on workshops will cover the anatomy of the KID with an in-depth coverage of the calculation of three different categories of PRIIPs. Each category will cover the required market risk calculation and four different performance scenarios.
